Design Brief
The Wig Factory is the project name for the office refurbishment design of an international hair and beauty company, Feme Ltd located in Wimbledon, London
Minale + Mann was asked to design the new headquarters for Feme – to create a boutique design and introduce unique, innovative design ideas that are both functional, yet with a “privileged elegance”.
Architecture and Fit-Out
The entire makeover consisted of converting three floors of a newly-built office block into reception and office space, meeting rooms, auditorium and exhibition space, banqueting, canteens, storage and IT, back-of-house and warehouse.
The main architectural feature is the custom-designed wall of heads (The Wig Wall) in the main auditorium and exhibition space. This flanks illuminated hand-stitched acoustic panels.
Interior Design and Features
Key design concepts include a 35m-long, pre-cast concrete-resin catwalk that doubles as a banquet table.
The catwalk/banquet table provides a unique platform for fashion shows, as well as doubling up for banqueting. The structure is illuminated from below to give the sense that is it floating from one end of the space to the other. It extends from the reception lobby to the front of the building, traversing an internal lobby window to form the downstairs reception area.
Fit-Out Joinery
The office joinery accommodates storage, IT, cloakrooms, office filing and stationery cupboards. There is also an on-site bespoke staff kitchen and breakout canteen. All office joinery is designed and made by MannMade London.
Key joinery features include a 15m-long, timber slatted feature wall, hand-stitched black leather and oak reception desk, branded office shelving and canteen tables.
